India Art Summit

It's no surprise that the country that gave us the Taj Mahal would rise to the top of the art world. The country held its first international modern and contemporary art fair in 2008. It was a huge success attracting over 10,000 visitors. This year's event is going to begin on August 19th in New Delhi. Art lovers from all over the world will be there.

Artists have always loved India for its light, culture and color. And we all have our favorite Indian artists. I'm a fan of pop artist Subodh Gupta. He's one of those artists whose talent knows no boundaries. He's a painter, photographer, sculptor and performance artist. Jitish Kallat is also at the top of my list. His art peaks my curiosity. It's so peculiar, strange and interesting that I find it hard to divert my eyes. This gift which Indian artists have mastered is exactly what art is suppose to do....draw the audience in, hold them and keep them coming back for more. We can all learn a lot from the creative spirits of India.

I'm sure this year's event will be even more successful than last. For more information please visit: India Art Summit.

I found Subodh Gupta's work very powerful. I am not familiar with the other artist you mention, so I'm off to check your links.

You changed your layout.

So, did you get a chance to check it out? What did you think?

I find Kallat's technique very intriguing, but I am not sure what I think. I have a feeling seeing them on the net is not doing them justice. I think the layering would be wonderful to explore in real life. I like his "dial a dream painting", and "aren't we all getting spotted". I am not as keen on his sculptures though. But I feel his paintings have a message that goes beyond the visual and as such makes them intriguing technically and conceptually.

Wow! I have a friend who paints Indian Mogul miniatures and they're breathtaking.
I just reread your inspiring comment on my blog, which was encouraging. I'm feeling low because amazon.uk have a glitch on their system. They insist my book's displayed on their website but it isn't. It's available through amazon.com and other amazon websites throughout the world, as far away as New Zealand, but not on the UK site. It can be preordered online from many ohter UK sites - Waterstones, Borders, WH Smiths etc - but as far as amazon.uk are concerned, Cut Short doesn't exist! Unless my blog contacts across the pond order on amazon.com, my amazon sales will be zero. Great start for a new author!

I would be happy to do a blog about your new book. The Global Art has a nice following - really good, nice, people visit here.

Hello,

We would like to invite you and your readers to contribute to:
http://abookaboutdeath.blogspot.com/

It's an exhibition at The Emily Harvey Foundation in NYC and I am hoping you might participate. Feel free to post, and make the artist call well known throughout India.

To contribute your work, you need only send 500 postcards with a work that touches upon the subject of death. Obviously that is quite an open subject. It would be wonderful to include you in this. Response world wide has been enormous.

The opening is set for September 10, 2009, a day shy of 9/11 ... but with the demonstrations and slaughter going on in Iran these past few weeks, there are ample issues. Artists of course have free reign to do what they like.

All the best,

Matthew

P.S. Please send this artist call along to anyone you think would be interested, artists, photographers, writers, creatives of all flavors.

P.S.S. Some press: http://www.artfagcity.com/2009/06/29/open-artist-call-a-book-about-death/
