Max has graced the covers of magazines, met world leaders, been on television and partied with rock stars. He became famous during the sixties with his cosmic bold color combinations. In fact many of the images we have come to associate with the sixties were Max's creations. What some might not know about this great artist is that he originally wanted to be an professional astronomer. Thus explains his cosmic doodles.

Even his personal life is beyond interesting. He was born in Europe and raise in Shanghai, China. When he was 16 his family moved to America were he was destined to become an icon. There are no limits to his talents. He paints in everything for acrylics to oils and even finger paints. He, like Picasso, can take art anywhere he wants it to go from realism to the most bazaar abstract paintings. I encourage you to visit his website. You might be a bit shocked by his creations but you definitely won't be disappointed.

I like his work and painted a picture of my own that I still have on a slide back as a kid.
Sadly, and sometimes we need to remember these things, it's better not to meet some people:
While living in Sausalito, down the street from us was a gallery and he came to show his new works. Maybe it was a bad day, but he slouched on a chair and acted indifferent and that was the impression I left with.
His early work was fascinating and more creative I think. But that's just my opinion.
Cheers!

Painting is an amazing talent. I didn't know who Peter Max was, but being subscribed to this blog keeps me from being some sheltered guy. Lol. He does great work. Good post
I love Peter Max, I have a print he did of donald duck on my living room wall (it's a very comical piece). Your right about his ability to paint outside of the art world, i enjoy that in his work too. Thanks for checking out my blog and becoming a follower, very much appreciated!
Thanks for telling us about Peter Max.. very cool :)
Checked out his 44 Obamas too.. v.nice. Like the man with the umbrella picture a lot. Makes a rainy day look very bright and colourful.
My son painted a Peter Max style painting in AP studio art in high school. It's big, and we had it framed and hung it on our wall. When we put our house on the market to move here to the farm, our fancy-dan realtor exclaimed in his walk-through: "OH! You have a Peter Max!" We corrected him. "No, it's a Peter Mowry."
I am an artist as well, and ashamed to say this, but I have never heard of Peter Max.
His work is very impressive... I have not seen anything like it.
The one word I would use to describe might be "cool"... but not in the teenager kind of way.
